Medical Hair Loss
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a treatment option that may be used for hair loss or hair thinning. PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood and contains a high concentration of platelets and growth factors.
During a PRP treatment for hair loss, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and processed to extract the platelet-rich plasma. The PRP is then injected into the scalp, specifically in areas where hair thinning, or where hair loss is occurring.
The growth factors present in PRP are believed to stimulate hair follicles, improve blood circulation to the scalp, and promote hair growth. PRP therapy for hair loss is typically performed as a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart.
